Why Keep An Art Journal?
Journaling is very important for me as an artist. It gives me a sense of freedom. Always painting on canvas can get tiring and stressful, because I feel obligated to make the painting as perfect as possible. When I journal, a sense of carefree enjoyment begins. Journaling is simple, mess free, and I get the satisfaction of seeing fast results. It is nice to easily sketch an idea that suddenly pops into my head and not have to worry about being meticulous while drawing it. I use a few different mediums in my journal such as pen, pencil, and watercolor pencil, the latter is my favorite one to use. The journal itself is a beautiful hand bound, tri-fold, moleskine leather sketch book. The pages are made to look and feel old. It has a Lord of the Rings look to it, which I absolutely love. I can't wait until it is completely full.
